What We Do
It’s relentless, isn't it—the evolution of our global economies and our environmental priorities. But CH2M HILL matches it, providing services to build, upgrade, and support needed infrastructure—and more. Below are some of the more than 10,000 projects we have on our table at any given time, demonstrating just a fraction of the dynamic work we do to improve the lives of people around the world and in your community. From making improvements on the streets of Idaho to making history on the Panama Canal, our projects make a difference.
The Masdar 'Green' City
It is a bold step…to start a journey that is about achieving zero carbon and zero waste rather than continuing to debate whether or not it is possible. That is what the Abu Dhabi government did when
it broke ground on Masdar City, United Arab Emirates.
Sri Lanka Tsunami
The tsunami that hit Sri Lanka on December 26, 2004, killed more than 31,000 Sri Lankans and displaced 500,000 more. It destroyed most of the basic infrastructure—water treatment facilities, sanitation, roads, harbors, and schools. The work required to return the country to some normalcy was monumental, and CH2M HILL was up to the task. But CH2M HILL employees did more than rebuild structures. They rebuilt lives.
Expanding the Panama Canal
In 2014, the Panama Canal will celebrate its 100th anniversary, and CH2M HILL will be there to celebrate with the people of the nation. We will be there to see the first ship pass through the canal that we helped to expand and through an additional set of locks that we helped to construct. What an honor to be entrusted with this great responsibility and historic undertaking!
High Bridge
Since 1923, the High Bridge power plant has been part of the skyline in St. Paul, Minnesota, providing power to the offices, businesses, and residents of the Twin City community. But the skyline has changed. The plant’s owner, Xcel Energy, replaced the old coal-fired plant with a combined-cycle natural gas facility that is larger, cleaner, and more energy efficient.
Fountain Creek
The Fountain Creek Recovery Project is a great example of an environmentally sound and proactive approach to effectively manage water resources. The project was implemented to protect the environment and the community, and to keep potential wastewater overflows from reaching downstream in the event of upstream wastewater spills caused by vandalism, blockages, or other occurrences.
