CH2M HILL

Professional Development

If you haven’t already noticed, CH2M HILL is engaged in some really cool, highly challenging projects. Your professional development begins with your first project assignment. As a scientist or engineer, the opportunity for development is a subset of the challenging project to which you have been assigned. For corporate staff, there are the ever–present, on–the–job learning opportunities as well as traditional corporate training, seminars, and classes.

CH2M HILL’s Learning Approaches

  • Online—through a library of over 100 online business and PC skills courses. It is an opportunity for employees to explore a number of diverse topics at no charge, available 24/7 on the company Intranet.
  • Self-study—for those with initiative. The firm offers items through the learning library and online to support individuals with their professional development. The benefit to self-study is that employees can often pick the development activities most relevant to their needs.
  • Mentoring—learning from either sharing your own or listening to others’ knowledge and experience. The firm offers a number of mentoring resources to employees.
  • On-the-job development—one of the most effective at preparing individuals for leadership success. Any time employees can experience or learn something new on the job, it contributes to their development. We encourage employees to apply learned skills to their jobs and methods for promoting this type of knowledge technique include coaching, mentoring, action–learning and job rotation—flexibility in the work environment promotes this by enabling risk taking.
  • Traditional classroom—courses taught by a live instructor in a classroom environment typically with other participants.
  • Blended learning—combining online resources and traditional classroom techniques. The online resources are for knowledge transfer and the classroom is for skills practice with others.
