The Challenge! Under the general direction of the Manager of the Publications/Proposal group the
Proposal Manager will support the Operations & Maintenance Business Group and the Business Development team across the country and major sales activities and initiatives. Duties include independently leading the preparation and production of proposals of all sizes and types up to major/strategic efforts. You will also manage large and often strategic/major proposal efforts. The Proposal Manager may perform sales manager tasks on small/medium pursuits and will act as subject-matter expert in BD and proposal publishing arena. You will work closely with the Sales team leaders, may suggest teaming partners and subcontractors during strategy development. In this role you will coach midlevel and junior staff in peer groups. Possessing knowledge of competitor and industry trends within Business Group is a key component to this positions' success, as well as supervisory experience is required. You must have lead a proposal team to be qualified for this position.
Our
Proposal Manager:
- Ensures client satisfaction within Business and/or Client Group.
- With little or no supervision, is responsible for independently performing research, writing, editing, and proposal production and coordination on a variety of BD efforts.
- Leads complex, or major/strategic proposal efforts; edits, writes, coordinates, and ensures compliance; oversees preparation/writing of proposal sections.
- Participates on team that wins quality revenue-generating work.
- Understands and applies Opportunity Assessment and Development process and Proposal and Conversion Process.
- Supports Sales Manager in integrating pursuit strategy/win themes. May lead the integration of the pursuit strategy/win themes on major/strategic efforts.
- Acts as proposal lead of production staff on assigned efforts. Leads multi-office proposal teams.
- May provide resource management to complex proposals.
- Routinely establishes and enforces establish pre-production document management and file-sharing processes on proposals for efforts led.
- Leads content collection with teaming partners and subcontractors.
- Prepares and ensures compliant and proposal deliverables. Leads the proposal development process, including meeting client requirements, schedule, and budget. Proactively communicates issues/variances.
- Writes or edits content for some nontechnical sections, including tailoring resume and project description content.
- Directs and integrates graphic design, document publishing, and production staff.
- Accountable for and oversees QA/QC of proposal documents.
- Contributes suggested improvements/additions to proposal development processes.
- Prioritizes own and others' work to meet proposal/team deliverables.
- Responsible for the delivery of work products; may include multiple proposals and processes.
- Follows Enterprise health and safety policies and procedures, and escalates issues.
- Maintains robust internal client network within the Business and/or Division. Demonstrates excellent oral and written communication skills. Possesses effective active listening skills.
- Participates as an active member in local organizations and committees and participates in seminars, training activities, and presentations.
- Uses communication and negotiation skills to guide, influence, and convince others.
- Leads communications with graphic design, document publishing, production staff, technical writer/editors, and other proposal leaders.
- Possesses advanced understanding of Enterprise objectives and services provided by Business Groups.
- Populates and uses appropriate tools and contributes to improving tools.
- Often solves issues independently.
- Implements company image/brand on assigned projects.
- Identifies innovative solutions to solve challenges within the Business Group (s) supported.
- Conducts follow up on completed projects and applies lessons learned to future efforts. Writes and publish success stories, proposal summaries and lessons learned debriefs.
Basic Qualifications
- 4-year degree in English, journalism, marketing, or equivalent required
- 7-10 years of experience in writing and editing proposals and related marketing materials
- 2+ years of experience managing a high-performance team
- Working knowledge of word processing and presentation software programs
- Excellent writing, editing, proofreading, interviewing, and research skills
- Ability to coordinate multiple deadlines working effectively with staff at all levels
Preferred Qualifications
- 10+ years of experience in writing and editing proposals and related marketing materials
Degree Required
Bachelors or 4 Year Degree
