Description and Desired Qualifications
Systems Engineer – Toronto, Ontario
This position is responsible for managing and reviewing rail transit systems plans and ensuring they are in conformance to applicable standards and codes as well as meeting the project specific requirements. The position may be full time in the client's offices. The position provides the client project level and program level technical consultations as well s recommendations of project delivery. The incumbent is responsible for the oversight of transit systems engineering. The systems components include: traction power and substations, OCS, train control, communications, and other mechanical and electrical components. He/she integrates understanding of all technical aspects of systems engineering as well as any emerging business/industry trends and implications. This position uses communication skills to support the client, in their offices, and external audiences on issues with significant project impact.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
Responsible for planning and scheduling work and staffing needs, assigning lead roles, evaluating performance, and counseling assigned personnel in relations to systems engineering management.
Technical systems knowledge of light, commuter rail, passenger rail, BRT and motor coach operations.
Provide technical insight, technical clarity, and alternatives for use in key stakeholder coordination
Analyze and recommend solutions related to transit, specifically systems elements.
Oversee and coordinate other rail consultants, procurement, design, construction, and commissioning activities
Lead and coordinate project baseline planning, scope, schedule, and budgets, including VE and constructability reviews
Collect, monitor, and evaluate design submissions, cost estimates, and construction schedules from third parties including suppliers
Review and comment on reports, scopes, tender documents, and design submissions by suppliers/builders
Perform shop drawings review process
Conduct site visits and prepare reports during the construction phase
Participate in claims review and settlements, including change order evaluations
Review and comment on key design submissions
Coordinate with the project/program management team associated with technical, cost, and schedule issues
Monitoring the progress of several large complex projects
Providing solutions to transportation systems issues.
Providing technical insight, technical clarity, and alternatives for use in strategies with key stakeholders.
Leading and coordinating project baseline scopes, schedules and budgets.
Leading and coordinating VE and constructability reviews.
Collecting, monitoring and evaluating design submissions, cost estimates, and construction schedules from contractors, public agencies, utility companies, and designer.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in an applicable discipline preferred, or equivalent experience.
15 years experience preferred
P3 experience an asset.
Experience on Mega Projects advantageous.
Degree Required
Bachelors or 4 Year Degree
